About the World Congress of Gastroenterology

First held in Washington, DC, USA in 1958, the purpose of the World Congress of Gastroenterology is to:

• Disseminate and exchange clinical, practical, and scientific knowledge and information.
• Educate gastroenterologists and hepatologists, as well as physicians and other allied health professional in related disciplines, from around the world.
• Provide opportunities for networking among professionals for the exchange of experience and ideas.

Since its founding, the World Congress of Gastroenterology has established itself as one of the leading scientific events in the field through its groundbreaking research shared in an international forum. 

The WCOG has historically been held every four years, and, in 2017, officially moved to a two-year schedule. View the congress history here.

World Congress of Gastroenterology 2026

The next WCOG will take place from 30 September - 3 October 2026 in New Delhi, India in partnership with the Indian Society of Gastroenterology.  More details will be available soon.

Hosting a World Congress of Gastroenterology

The call for bids for the 2027 WCOG is now closed.

Please note that applications to host a World Congress will only be considered from WGO Member Societies. Final ratification of the venue of a World Congress, as recommended by the WGO Governing Council, is made by the WGO General Assembly.
