WGO Cairo Training Center

Introduction:

The WGO Cairo Training Center (CTC) was established in March 2004 as an international non-governmental project in collaboration with the World Gastroenterology Organisation (WGO). The CTC was officially inaugurated in the presence of the Prime Minister of Eqypt and national dignitaries.


Aims/Mission:

The CTC mission is to develop mutual cooperation to train physicians and young doctors from countries in the Middle East and from English speaking African countries on the sciences and techniques of Gastroenterology and Hepatology through an international non-profit, long term program based in Egypt and subject to Egyptian laws and regulations.


Facilities:

The Cairo Training Center is located in the Theodor Bilharz Research Institute. The Endoscopy Unit includes:

  • Endoscopy rooms: 6 endoscopy rooms (3 with X- ray facility)
  • 4 ERCP Endoscopes, 10 Gastroscopes, 3 Colonoscopes, 1 Enteroscope
  • 27 Working Endoscopists (12 performing ERCP)
  • 10 specialized endoscopy nurses
  • 140 - 150 Diagnostic and Therapeutic Procedure per week (10 - 15 ERCP). 20 - 30 Acute upper GI Bleeding cases per week (our unit is a 24 hour working unit)

Equipment used in Training Course, provided annually, free of charge:

  • Pentax provides the Center with 4 Gastroscopes, and 2 Colonoscopes
  • COOK provides the Center with 30 - 40 Band Ligation sets, 30 -50 Injector needles
  • Local Pharmaceutical companies provide all drugs used e.g. cyanoacrylate injections

  • Therapeutic Upper Endoscopy
  • Colonoscopy
  • EBM & Medical Ethics

Level I - Diagnostic Endoscopy
Level II - Therapeutic Endoscopy
Level III - Advanced Endoscopy
